This 5-day Girl Scout trip to Savannah, Georgia takes a relaxed pace to explore many of the culturally interesting and fun sites of this southern town.
Girl Scout Trip: Day 1
Start your day with a continental breakfast at the hotel before departing for church services.
Speak like a pirate while enjoying your lunch at the historic Pirates’ House, established in 1753.
Then, board your trolley for a 90-minute tour of Savannah with Old Savannah Tours. Experience more than 270 years of American history as you enjoy a fully narrated sightseeing tour of one of the largest National Urban Historic Landmarked Districts in the United States.
After your engaging trolley tour, take the motorcoach to the Lazaretto Creek Marina. Board your boat for Captain Mike’s Dolphin Tour to watch bottle-nose dolphins play in their natural habitat.
Enjoy dinner at a restaurant of your choice this evening before checking into the hotel.
Girl Scout Trip: Day 2
Today is a very exciting day. After enjoying a continental breakfast at the hotel, depart for the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts.
Enjoy a guided tour of the authentically furnished Gordon family home as it appeared in 1886. Take this inspirational tour into the past during the special Girl Scout trip and experience four generations of lively stories of one American family.
Lunch is at a location of your choosing.
In the afternoon, enjoy a Special Interest Session at the Juliette Gordon Low birthplace. Choose your program, such as a textile program. “Like Juliette Gordon Low’s first Girl Guides in Scotland, learn about fibers, and try your hand at spinning and weaving. Begin a weaving take-home project on a card loom.”
Then, take part in a special bridging ceremony in the Birthplace Gardens
Stroll down Savannah‘s River Walk and stop for a bit at one of the 21 restaurants for dinner. Enjoy the serene and beautiful scenery . River Street is the heart of historic Savannah. Visit art galleries inside restored cotton warehouses, try delicious sweets, and peruse the shops of teddy bears. Horse-drawn carriages parade around the harbor, which is filled with ships of all kinds. This waterfront is truly idyllic. Take your time to explore all the sites and activities of River Street.
Return to the hotel and swim at your leisure at the hotel pool.
Girl Scout Trip: Day 3
After a continental breakfast at the hotel, it is time to depart for touring.
Start at the Andrew Low House. Andrew Low became Savannah’s wealthiest resident as a result of the cotton boom and his sharp business acumen. Andrew Low is Juliette Gordon Low’s father-in-law. This ornately decorated house is one of the successful cotton entrepreneur’s enduring successes.
It’s lunchtime! Head over to Leopold’s Ice Cream Shop to enjoy home made soup and sandwiches before indulging in, of course, ice cream! Check out all of the homemade ice cream flavors to get your mouth watering!
Arrrr! We’re off to Rogues and Rouge! Women Pirates of the High Seas! at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Learn about the role female pirates played in maritime history. As you make a piece of coin jewelry, you will learn about some of the earliest money forms including the Spanish reale, pieces of eight, the escudo, and gold doubloom!
Time for a scrumptious dinner at Paula Deen’s The Lady and Sons restaurant.
After dinner, hear the legends and spooky stories of Savannah during a 90-minute Ghost Talk Ghost Walk Tour. Your guides will share haunted tales based on Margaret DeBolt’s book Savannah Spectres and Other Strange Tales.
Then, return to your hotel for the evening.
Girl Scout Trip: Day 4
Today will be spent at beautiful Tybee Island.
First, visit the Tybee Island Light Station, which has been in operation for over 270 years! This light station guides mariners into the Savannah River. The current station displays its 1916 day mark and has 178 stairs. the Tybee Island Light Station has been guiding mariners safe entrance into the Savannah River for over 270 years.
Be sure to visit the Tybee Museum which was established in 1961. Located in Battery Garland of Fort Screven, this museum serves to interpret the history of Tybee Island.
Enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice.
Start the afternoon at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. Choose between a marsh ecology walk or a beach ecology walk. During the beach ecology walk, you will explore the dynamics of Georgia’s barrier islands, including the tides and dunes. The marsh ecology walk teaches the importance of the ecosystem by exploring the mud, botany, periwinkle snails and more in the tidal marsh.
Observe the creatures of these ecosystems up close with a follow-up sand sifting or seining activity. During sand sifting, girl scouts will sift wet sand through strainers to identify the animals that create the intertidal food web. During seining, scouts will pull a 10 foot net through the ocean surf to observe and identify the marine life.Finish your experience at the science center with a visit to the Coastal Gallery.
Spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the beach of Tybee Island.
Then, it’s time for a pizza party and swiming at the hotel!
Girl Scout Trip: Day 5
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before starting the day with a tour of Christ Church.
Lunch will be at Soda Pop Shoppe!
After, it is time to depart for home. Your engaging girl scout trip to Savannah has come to an end!
