This two-day Pittsburgh science tour is filled with science adventures that will ignite curiosity in all of your students.

Pittsburgh Science Tour: Day 1

Start your day at the  Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Come face-to-face with a stegosaurus at Dinosaurs in Their Time, the first permanent exhibition in the world to feature scientifically accurate, immersive environments spanning the Mesozoic Era. Ride the Stratavator, a simulated elevator ride that takes you 16,000 feet down into the Earth. Consider the environmental effects of  our burgeoning human population in Population Impact.

Next, ride the cable cars of the Duquesne Incline, a Pittsburgh tradition since 1877.  Take in the incredible views of the Pittsburgh skyline and three rivers as you walk the sidewalks of Mount Washington.

After dinner, check into the Carnegie Science Center for your science sleepover! Enjoy an entire evening of science adventures in addition to the permanent exhibits of the Science Center. Try on night-vision goggles and experience how nocturnal animals see the world. Then, enter the glow room to investigate ultraviolet light. Afterwards,  watch a movie shown on the four-story domed screen of the Rangos Omnimax Theater.  You will feel like you are in the movie scenery! Next up is a science workshop where you will get hands-on with science during demonstrations and experiments.  Don’t forget to swing by the planetarium for the laser light show , an incredible light display set to music. Grab a late night snack before heading to bed.

Pittsburgh Science Tour: Day 2

Rise and shine! Enjoy a hearty continental breakfast at the science center.

After, climb aboard the USS Requin Submarine, the Navy’s first Radar Picket submarine. This submarine was used both for scientific and defense expeditions.

Then, experience SportsWorks, where you will learn how the laws of science control sports! Participate in 30 interactive experiences in three thematic areas: LifeWorks, Physics of Sports, and Sports Challenge. Learn about kinetic energy as you become a human yo-yo! Play hockey on the world’s largest ‘bubble hockey’ table. Ride a counter-balanced unicycle across a beam 15 feet in the air!

Learn why a cuttlefish can change colors so quickly,  how the spectacled bear got its name, and the reason flamingos are pink. You can even pet a stingray and kangaroo!

Before heading home, take a walking tour of Carnegie Mellon University or the University of Pittsburgh. Both are world-renowned for technology  innovation and strong academic science programs.
