We left our home the morning of Sunday, July 31st and headed for Hagerstown. My husband had been seeing flyers for a restaurant called Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant. He really liked our trip to Hofbrauhaus in Pittsburgh so he figured German / Bavarian, how much can they differ? Quite a bit, as it turns out even though there are similarities. We had some spare time before the restaurant opened and so enjoyed a walk around the town. Schmankerl Stube is right near the theatre area so there were cool statues and mosaics to see. Soon the restaurant opened and we were greeted by a waitress in authentic Bavarian dress. Everyone was so nice and they explained all the different food choices for us. It was an interesting experience. Afterwards we headed to DC.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Bladensburg Road. After we arrived and unpacked, we headed on out to Hanover, MD to Arundel Mills Mall. We had reservations at Medieval Times but left in plenty of time so we could walk around the mall first. If you’ve never been to Medieval Times, you have to experience it. We had such a great time! It was our first trip there so we didn’t really know what to expect. It was interesting to eat without utensils, kind of fun actually. And then watching the show and cheering on your knight while eating through the courses was great too. They put on a good show, especially if you are willing to surrender yourself to it. My son didn’t have much of a voice left that night he was cheering so loud! It really was worth the trip and we would go again! Then we went back to the hotel.

I have decided to break the story up so it’s not a novel. Hope you enjoyed part 1!
